OCON HELPS BUILD A BETTER FUTURE WITH CHARITY TRIPLE

Part of the Opal Property Group which has established its own charity, The Opal Foundation, Ocon is no stranger to raising funds and this year the efforts of the Ocon team will help more charities than ever before.

The charity bonanza will kick off on 4th June when Ocon’s commercial director, Rob Bratt, laces up his walking boots to take on the Three Peaks Challenge alongside colleagues from the Opal Property Group.  An experienced walker who has tackled the Three Peaks Challenge several times before, Rob will be raising money for both the Opal Foundation, a charity that supports underprivileged children in the UK and Africa, and for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) charity.  The mammoth walk will begin on 4th June with Ben Nevis in Scotland before the journey down to Cumbria to take on Scafell Pike then finally Snowdon in North Wales on 5th June.  Rob has already raised over £2,500 for RMCH and he and the Opal team hope to raise a consdierable amount more for both charities.

Rob may need to rest his weary legs later that week but there will be no let up for the charity efforts at Ocon, as the company enters a 14-strong team, “Ocon Rock ‘n’ Row”, into the annual construction industry Dragon Boat Challenge.  The team will paddle their 30ft boat down the course at Salford Quays on 8th June with Ocon’s estimating manager, Ian Welford as crew manager beating time on a Chinese drum at the helm.  Held to raise funds for CRASH, the construction and property industry’s homeless charity, this is the 6th year that the event has taken place in Salford Quays and the fourth year that Ocon has been involved, supporting the charity with its £1,200 entry fee.

Following on from their colleagues’ efforts on foot and on the water, a team of 15 intrepid fundraisers from Ocon and Opal will set off from London on bikes on 7th September to begin a cycle ride to Paris in a bid to raise money for the Opal Foundation.  They’re hoping that their pedal power will help them raise £10,000 from the three-day trip which will kick start the foundation’s bid to raise £35,000 for a clean water and sanitation system in the Kechene slum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

“As charity fundraising events go,” comments Ocon’s managing director, Andy Barker, “these are physically demanding - some might even say ‘gruelling’ - events, and we are very proud of our team for taking them on and putting such effort into raising money for good causes.  We’re happy to support them with the time and accommodation they need to complete the challenges and look forward to giving them a hero’s welcome when they return to work.”
