OCON BUILDS SECURE FUTURE FOR SALFORD SOCIAL CARE RESIDENTS
Manchester-based construction firm, Ocon, has successfully completed a social care residential project in Salford, handing over the nine-apartment scheme within just six months.
Ocon built the 'Monks Hall' scheme for Worsley-based developer, Harrington House Estates Ltd, which specialises in care homes, children's homes and assisted living. Designed by Sale-based architect, Howard and Seddon, the scheme comprises nine self-contained assisted living apartments, including six two-bedroom units and three one-bedroom fully disabled-compliant units on the ground floor. Externally, the development includes a nine-space car park with three disabled spaces, landscaped gardens with drying, barbeque and cycle storage areas and an enclosed private garden.
This is the first project that Ocon has completed for the developer after making it on to the tender list thanks to a recommendation. The construction company is a market-leading contractor in the student accommodation sector and its reputation for student residential schemes, record of completing on time and to budget and competitive pricing helped Ocon to secure the job.
A spokesman for Harrington House Estates Ltd commented, "We sold the property off plan to a charity so we really needed to be able to complete on time and to budget. Ocon not only achieved that but their communication throughout the build and attention to detail ensured that we were always confident of progress and, ultimately, delighted with the end result."
Managing director of Ocon, Andy Barker added: "Ocon's expertise in the student accommodation sector is very transferable to all kinds of residential schemes and here we have answered the demands of a tight schedule and varied Disability Discrimination Act compliance requirements to deliver a successful scheme. We are a national construction company but all the delivery partners were Manchester based on this project and it's great to have been involved in such a worthwhile project so close to home."
