Ocon lands Manchester Railhouse office refurbishment contract
The office building, which is located on Store Street will involve a full refurbishment and fit-out of the 10-storey building to a high standard and excellence with regards to sustainability and the environment. Once work is complete the office will be home to a number of Government agencies. Construction will begin mid-September and is estimated for completion in March 2010.
Ocon won the contract due to previous experience of refurbishment and regeneration projects in city centre locations. The contractor has previously redeveloped the Zenith Building, a 1970's multi-storey office block located in the Spring Garden commercial district of Manchester, into a contemporary office building. During the refurbishment process Ocon worked sensitively to ensure it caused minimum disruption to other businesses that continued to occupy the building.
Managing Director for Ocon, commented: 'We are delighted to have won the contract with BRB (Residuary) Ltd. With our track-record in office refurbishment we have the necessary experience and expertise to deliver the high-quality refurbishment of the building. This will also add to the ongoing regeneration of the Piccadilly area of Manchester.'
Anne Griffiths, Project Sponsor for BRB (Residuary) Ltd, said: 'We are looking forward to working with Ocon, a Manchester based contractor with a strong reputation for being proactive and delivering projects on time and within budget..'
Other recent contract wins for the company include a new £7 million, 198-bedroom student accommodation apartment located on the Sutton Bonington campus at the University of Nottingham.
Construction has also recently started at Chettles Yard, a £50 million, an environmentally sensitive 1,000 bedroom student accommodation scheme complete with office and retail facilities as well as a central biomass burners to heat water.
